Craftsmanship.

Commercial spaces demand more from millwork: durability, cohesion, and flawless execution across multiple material types. Prime Millwork brings together woodworking mastery with the ability to integrate glass, aluminum, metalwork, stone, Corian, and custom finishes. Uwe’s hospitality work is known for accomplishing what others say “can’t be done.”

When a Banff restaurant needed oversized walnut wall paneling, hickory drum tables, and custom corkscrew bar legs – components that couldn’t be purchased anywhere – he simply designed and built the machine required to make them. For architects, designers, and owners, Prime Millwork provides a partner who anticipates issues, engineers solutions, and delivers exceptional, lasting results.

FAQ's.

What types of commercial projects does Prime Millwork work on?

We work across restaurants, retail spaces, hotels, and other commercial environments. Projects often include architectural millwork, feature walls, custom furniture, and one-of-a-kind pieces that need to withstand heavy daily use without sacrificing craftsmanship.

Can you handle large or highly custom installations?

Yes. Complex, custom work is where Prime Millwork excels. In one notable Banff restaurant project, we produced oversized walnut wall panels, hickory tables, and corkscrew-shaped bar legs that couldn’t be sourced anywhere else. Uwe ultimately built a custom machine just to manufacture those components.

How does your work hold up in high-traffic environments?

Everything is built with durability and longevity in mind. Commercial spaces place far greater demands on finishes and structures, so materials, construction methods, and finishing systems are selected to handle that level of use.

Do you work directly with designers and contractors?

Yes. Collaboration is an important part of the process. Uwe works closely with designers, architects, and contractors, and he’s comfortable speaking up if a design detail might cause problems later. The goal is a result that works in the real world, not just on paper.

What materials do you work with beyond wood?

In addition to wood, we regularly integrate glass, aluminum, steel, powder-coated elements, Corian, stone, and other materials. Handling multiple materials in-house helps ensure the finished space feels cohesive and reduces the need for multiple trades.

What should hospitality clients look for in a millwork partner?

Look for someone who understands the difference between something that looks good on opening day and something that still performs well years later. Ask about their process, their materials, and whether they can produce truly custom work.

How do you approach a new hospitality project?

It starts with a detailed conversation about the space, the concept, and the practical demands. From there, drawings are developed, materials and finishes are confirmed, and precise site measurements are taken before production begins. Once everything is approved, production and installation typically take about six weeks.
